Several levels!! Something of an understatement there, as someone else pointed out Blyton could push out two a week (doesn't she hold some record for number of words output? But then that is a very British thing to be impressed by quantity rather than quality). I have said in previous posts it is the quality of writing that makes AR re-readable as an adult, and I was aware of this as a child.
I'm surprised by the praise here for J K Rowling, I saw the film of the first book before I read it and I was glad I did! The film filled in all the background and descriptive aspects that the writing failed to do. Just because she sells millions of copies does not make her a great writer, rich yes, but not great.
