And I thought it was at KITTY HAWK - NORTH CAROLINA - where that first powered flight took place. Perhaps the reference is to the location of where the Wright Brothers maintained their bicycle shop, as they went to North Carolina primarily to find a location that met their requirement for testing purposes. Taking a nose dive into a sand dune is much better than into a rocky field. There is also a good steady breeze across those dunes to assist in generating the needed lift.

By the way, that Wright Brothers bicycle shop was later moved to the Ford Museum in Detroit, Michigan, where it can be viewed along with quite an assortment of other vehicles of various ages.

The airplane they flew is in the Smithsonian Institute Museum in Washington, DC.

On the license plates for every car registered in North Carolina are the words, "First in Flight". It pays to advertise.

As if you can't tell, I spent my first 40 years of my life in North Carolina, then went to Florida for the next 30 years.
