I. too am going through the series with my eight year old daughter. She likes Nancy and Titty
but has not really thought about any of the others.
It seems a pity that in twelve books, Susan could not have been developed a bit more.
Certainly she is necessary as the sensible one who gets them off to bed on time (usually),
however, she could have been allowed a bit more of a life!
Peggy started out with possibilities, but didn't really develop except as a sort of opposite to Nancy.
I consider Titty and Dorothea to be two of the more interesting characters in terms of their
inner life and imaginations.
Dick is another character who really develops to have a life of his own. His leadership in persuading the
ones to go along with what he thinks is important, eg. Great Northern?, his ability to get things done
despite being apparently the sort of "absent minded professor" boy that you would expect to be ignored or laughed at
by hearty outgoing sorts. there is some of that but he quickly proved himself with the cragfast sheep.
