I recently saw an artical (and I'm sorry that I've have forgotten most of the details) where it was revealed that the childrens story "Good Night Moon" by Margaret Wise Brown was being edited to remove a picture of cigarettes (or some other foul habit that kids shouldn't see). The columnist went on to suggest a host of other things that should be removed from that timeless classic to save the children from themselves.

I'm okay with reading Ransome's words as he put them down and explaining the changes to the youth within earshot. At the same time, as Peter says, its probablby the right thing to do and would have negligible impact on the story.
