Yes but the difference in the AR books is how little the term is used and their otherwise fairly contemporary feel. No one reading the Twain books is under any impression other than that they were written the century before last.

I suppose that I do accept to some extent that these changes should not be made but at the same time I think that it is a shame that the term is included. I couldn’t find it in me to condemn any public library that chose not to stock them in their children’s section and I would fully understand any parent who upon finding that the expression was included in one book was not inclined to read the remaining 11 to satisfy themselves that the content was acceptable.
