A minor, trivial correction. 'Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone' became 'Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone' because the American publishers didn't think the potential readers knew about the Philosopher's Stone,

Not such a trivial correction. If you want to discourage your young citizens from growing up questing for knowledge and truth (philosophy is literally 'the love of knowledge') you would hardly admit that was what you are doing! I don't think many UK readers knew about the Philosopher's Stone, but that didn't stop PS becoming a massive best seller in the UK. Was the assumption made that American youngsters are dumber than their UK counterparts? Surely not.

Q. What have Bertrand Russell, Norman Davies and Sibel Edmonds got in common?

A. They all got fired from their jobs in the USA for searching for the truth.
