It is not the job of publishers to edit when the text was not originaly written to offend or incite.
Mike - That's nonsense. I was a publisher's editor throughout my working life! It was my job to edit - usually to make sense of some of the stuff we were presented with. I would alter for all sorts of reasons. An author's text (even AR's) is not sacred - we are not dealing with St John's Gospel here. If I were an editor at Cape or Red Fox I would have the 'n' word out quicker than lightning. All authors get edited - even Rowling. Many authors owe their reputation to their unsung editor.
