The best counter-sledge I heard of occurred in an Australia-Zimbabwe match some years ago. When the rather portly Zimbabwean Eddo Brandes came in to bat, arch-sledger Glen McGrath asked:
"Hey, Eddo; how come you're so fat?"
Back came the reply:
"Because every time I make love to your wife, she gives me a biscuit."
I understand a rather more earthy term than "make love to" was actually used.
