December 1937 involves all the SA novels up to and including the then-newly published WDMTGTS.

At that point Tolkien's children were 20 years old (John), 17 (Michael), 13 (Christopher) and 8 (Priscilla). With Swallows and Amazons first published seven years earlier in 1930, the three elder children would have been perfect ages to embrace the books - though I'm glad I read them all before I was in my twenties!
