Thanks for the info on Dee. Although Canada has sailing centers on both coasts and in the Great Lakes (which are really seas by another name)we do not have the inbred history of sailing off our shores to circumnavigate the world. After all people sailed away from europe to discover this place and never felt the need to really leave again.

All this to say that Canada's public in general does not support the sailing industry or the continued ocean sailing challenges that are being found on the high seas today.

I'm a supporter of Canadian, Derek Hatfield who is currrently building a state of the art "open sixty" for The Five Oceans Challenge that starts in Spain next October. Most of the challenge is raising the capital to do this. He has a supportive grass roots campaign but the corporate sponsers that the European sailors seem to have are eluding Derek.

Sailing remains a great sport and although when I sail around the world I plan to stop and see places I do love to see the barriers that are being torn down by people following dreams. If you want to find out more on Dereks bid, search for Spirit of Canada.
