There is a farm in Ennerdale in the western Lakes which has been occupied by the same family since Elizabethan times, well over 400 years.

As it happens this farm isn't called by the family name, but it does demonstrate that land in this area can stay in the ownership of one family for a very long time, and the land is referred to by local people in ordinary conversation by the owner's name rather than the farm's official name.
