From the Westmorland Gazette Friday 20th January 2006--:
Crag-fast cow is rescued from ledge
An animal-loving firefighter went to the aid of a crag-fast cow as it balanced precariously on a narrow ledge on Cunswick Scar on Monday afternoon. Kendal's station manager, Callum Graham, was alerted to the plight of the marooned milker by The Westmorland Gazette's fell-running news editor, Mike Addison, who spotted the bemused bovine as he was out on a lunchtime training run. His attention was drawn to the animal by two sharp-eyed walkers looking over the edge of the precipitous drop into the Lyth Valley. With the help of a farmer Mr. Graham lassoed the cow - which was unharmed - manoeuvred it around and guided it slowly to safety in a 45-minute operation.
How appropriate and how Ransomish that the unfortunate beast should have been spotted by two "Walkers" and have been rescued by someone called Callum!
