Peter, I think you are right in principle. Though, of course, there's more to being an Edwardian than social manners. But still, there are vestiges of Edwardian propriety to be seen at Beckfoot. Not in the GA herself, but in the great deference shown to the her by the Blackett household, including Mrs Blackett and Jim Turner.
What difference 30 years makes? I can't imagine any GA wielding so much power by 1960.
