What were AR's politics?

    1) Always Socialist.
    2) Socialist in his youth, but had seen the error of his ways by the time he wrote the S&A series.
    3) Always anti-imperialist.
    4) Always a-political, "Fishing".
    5) A combination of some of the above.
    6) Something else.
Is it significant that:
    a) The monstrous GA attempts to impose 'polite society' values on the Beckfoot household.
    b) The Sea Lords are 'beastly'.
    c) Jemmerling is very rich.
    d) The police haven't got a clue.
    e) The hullabaloos and George Owdon come from well-heeled families.
Coincidence?
