Re yr query to Laurence, apart from the mention of Roger which you already know of, there are in the very first chapter, the following:
1) A whole year had gone by. August had come again.
2) Everything would be just as it had been last year.
3) The thing they had been planning for a year was at last beginning.
4) At one moment she (Titty) felt that this was still last year.....
5) Last year, when they had seen the houseboat for the first time....
6)... it was just likr Nancy to plan that they should meet......
on the desert island where they had met last year.
7).... headed for WCI of which the whole ship's company had been dreaming ever since they sailed away from it last year.
8) But not far from the fireplace, left from last year, there was a large stack of driftwood.....
It does seem that in AR's head SD is the very next summer after SA.
