I don't think that when AR was writing these books he ever imagined that nearly 80 years on people would be studying every word with the same zeal that religious fundamentalists apply to their respective holy writ. I don't even think that he would have been very pleased.
But it is fun all the same. I'm sticking to 75 years, but we can have another anniversary next year.
In amswer to Ed's earlier query the big lakes freeze very rarely. Even the great winter of 1962 didn't produce conditions as described in WD.
