Jock - you're welcome. You are certainly not alone - even I have realised that Mavis does not conform exactly with Amazon as drawn by AR - the mast is not in the same position. However, if I were a vessel I would be flying the flag for 'You are standing into danger'. This subject arouses strong passions, although the most ardent proponents of the 'Mavis is Amazon' view have never appeared on Tarboard, to my knowledge, except possibly some years ago around the time that Pauline Marshall wrote to the Westmorland Gazette about it. (Pauline is adamant that M is NOT A.)

(I should just add that as a non-literalist I am happy to accept the boat in the Windermere Museum as 'very much like' Amazon. The only thing which worries me is that the boat looks heavy to me - I simply do not see a 10 or 12-year old being able to haul her up on shingle. However, I'll leave the technical arguments to others. . . .)
