I remember as a child enjoying the book but it was far from my favourite.
Mainly as the other books except PD (and I cannot ever remember reading that for some reason) were "could do adventures" even GN if I had a rich enough Uncle or at least one with the right connections.
At the time I read ML China was by that time Red China, and I knew the adventure was therefore dated and could not have happened in my time frame.
I still remembered the Yangtze incindent and knew the
British were less than welcome.
No doubt all the pirates would have been rounded up by the Red Chinese Navy.
I have yet to read ML again so maybe now at a much older age I will appreciate it more.
