I am sure she was in AR's mind, but he created a more flexible boat for the sailing stories

We know what Amazon was like. We have Coch y Bonddhu in the Windermere Steamboat Museum. Did AR 'create' Amazon? Or is she 'lifted' from another boat? Certainly the boat that Uncle Jim had built for the Amazons in Rio would have been generically different from the estuary workboat that was Mavis.

I would love to see if there are any photos of the Crossley girls sailing in the Crossley family archives. Note, Mr Crossley owned Esperance a dead ringer for Captain Flint's Houseboat and a house which in its relation to Lake Windermere has a close geographic fit to the location of 'Beckfoot' on AR's hybrid lake.
