It took 1 day on the water to teach my daughter about the difference between port and starboard. Using the buoys on a river helped a lot as well as showing her the consequences for a lack of knowledge, swimming with the yacker poofs (sharks - No. I don't know either, it is what mum called them. She is dead and I can not ask her, but I taught my daughter that one.)
