Even so, most chose to return.

Some 250,000 members of the Polish Armed Forces (Army, Navy and Navy) were in 'The West' at the end of WWII. According to Jerzy Zubrzycki Polish Immigration in Great Britain published in The Hague in 1956, 105,000 returned to Poland while 144,000 stayed in the West. Some of those who returned found themselves back in Soviet Gulag camps for a second time, some were imprisoned in Poland, some were executed, some were luckier.
