There are three times we see the expression: "good and proper" in the twelve books.

----------
BSCH30.doc
----------
"Must have been him," said Bill, keeping up with Dorothea. "But with that flash I didn't see nothing. I up and run in the dark, and they after me. Into that old ditch they go good and proper. But I didn't see nobody, not till they smoke us out and there they was in our cockpit."

----------
PDCH5.doc
----------
Struck a pampero or a Sugar Coast hurricane or one of them other big winds she did, and lost both her sticks and broke her back, and we took to the boats and she smashed one of them, and the other one, the one that I was in, didn't last long, but a seaman in her lashed me to a spar, and the next I knew was that I was washed up, beached good and proper on a bit of an island.

----------
SDCH17.doc
----------
But the moment she looks at her watch and thinks there ought to be a meal she doesn't wait decently till the gong's been banged once or twice in the house and then taken out in the garden and banged good and proper in case we're up on the fell.

----------------------------------------------------------

Usage of "fairly brown" - one incident:

----------
SACH19.doc
----------
"Now then, my hearties," she said as she clambered aft. "Wild Cat Island and Amazons for ever! We've done them fairly brown."
-----

--------------

And on a more personal note:
The young family now increased by the birth of my great granddaughter is living with the wife and I. We raised four girls in this house, so we have room for this young family until they get themselves set to go it alone. At least, that is our hope...

Thanks for all the personal emails and kind thoughts regarding this joyful occasion.

Nice thing about grand children (and now, GREAT grandchildren) one can solve so many problems by simply saying, "Go see your mother..." and I am off the hook.

And the all night crying is taking place at the OTHER end of the house. They are learning that kids do not come with an instruction book.

Life goes on. The miracle continues...
