Aside from the tongue in cheek answers to this question (addressing erroneous spelling and fantasy/fiction conditions), can someone discuss it seriously?

Why wouldn't the lakes freeze?

Or what were the conditions, which caused the lake(s) to freeze previously, that would not reoccur now?
