I certainly understand your point - however for me and for some of the others on Tarboard, nutting out the minutae of Beckfoot life enhances our appreciation of the stories. Not everyone likes to know 'what happened next' or 'I wonder what they saw out their bedroom window' when they read a book, but I'm one of the ones that do and I suspect the others who are debating the plumbing etc are also. In addition, as Ed has said, it's a whole new society to explore and the details mean he can much more easily understand the big picture once he has the little bits in place.
While I can empathise with your dislike for this and associated topics(I loathe the 'mousing sisterhooks'and anything mathematically or engineeringly technical type of thing myself) I guess the appeal of Tarboard is that if you don't like the topic, you can so easily brush past it to the ones you do enjoy.
Please, start a new topic on something you appreciate - there are plenty of Tarboarders who will joyfully join in.
