Clearly someone of the Evgenia persuasion ! If you want to look at it that way, all the books are "contrived" - AR put together a framework for the story with beginning, middle and end and then put flesh on the bones. As far as I am concerned the joy of returning to the Lake one last time (excluding the brief visit in CitN) and learning more about the characters of the D's and the Amazons, the home lives of the Amazons, other details of life in the Lakes, and the launch of "Scarab" more than makes up for any possible contrivances in the story.
