I am of the opinion that whilst the stories are very original - the places and pictures are not. He used what he knew. His description of Beckfoot reads like a path he is refollowing in his mind. Like a drawing I do, we copy what we have done before.

I am not criticising him in this comment. But the Beckfoot picture in PM is a straight take off from the one in the Art Museum whose name escapes me. There are to many similar points.

He did the same in WDMTGS.

His drawing was not good, his writing and story telling were. He borrowed for the drawings.

It is no big deal as long as you recognize his limitations.

I was once asked by a Science Teacher, "Why do you ask Why all the time?"

I just want to know.

I am a water supply expert - that stuff really interests me.

I enjoy surveying. My recent surving class were given the AR sketch of Horsey Island and told to enter it into AutoCAD and find the errors. They found several mistakes in bearing. One even got to the stage of working out what the bearings really were on the mistaken lines. Do you think if we wrote to AR now he would correct the plan?

From a class of 60, exactly one boy scout could read the map without me providing an hour of instruction. What was obvious to Roger and his ilk is not obvious to highly trained University people in Texas.

I will be looking at this plan in the next few days and will put the best result up on the web.

It is only when you have been in a desert without water that you appreciate the finer things in life. - Coke, kit kats, pies and blueberry pancakes.
