Have I missed something? I do not remember reading anywhere that the Beckfoot launch was steam powered.
It would be jolly nice if it was though. I wonder in SA who would have lit it up to come to the rescue in the morning after the storm as CF was elsewhere? Maybe the cook/housekeepers job - if you have ever seen "The Titfield Thunderbolt".
A steam launch is certainly easier and quicker to light up than a standard gauge steam locomotive (which takes about 4 hours if you are being kind to the boiler).
