I wonder if the Black in Blackett is a play on the black spot. AR would certainly have been sticking it to Crossley in a kindly manner, but perhaps picked up by future sleuths.

"the people inside the book have got some sort of right to be alive."
Arthur Ransome

Without trains the stories would have been harder. Imagine getting around England in a car with 5 kids, a nanny and provisions. So I think trains in the form covered by AR are a fair cop.

Finally has the world reached a stage where Johnny Depp is the modern Peter Duck?

Jock: I do not ramble. I meander quietly through the valley of life, sometimes on a gentle bank with kindly rats messing about in boats and othertimes in the heat of a passionate tempest. Finally we reach the Tarboard, a quiet oasis in the middle of the river populated with an odd assortment of characters who create a moving story. Of course being the Nile there is the odd crocodile on the banks, but a 303 between the eyes usually sorts out that little problem.

Of course there are the women in my life.
