Dealing with natives

I was reading WH last night, and noticed that we saw much more about Dick's dealing with the natives- specifically the Dixons then we did the Swallows or Amazons. In a later book, PM, we again see Dick and Dorothea dealing with Jackie, and in SD, Roger is often down at Swainsons, and of course, is the one to stay the night with the Billies.

We don't see this with the elder children as much.
