I really do sympathise with Mark Dudley. I fear I am one of the 'four or five' he refers to. I agree that the 'in-fighting' or whatever word one uses is very off-putting to those who are newer to the Board.

There is a devastatingly simple remedy for this, and one which I have advocated often, without success. If anyone objects to a post, ie finds the tone of it offensive or 'very, very annoying', or unduly personal, or 'condescending', or something like that, please could they email the person concerned direct and settle the matter privately. In the old days on Tarboard this was done - I settled potential quarrels with other contributors this way on several occasions. It is much harder to be angry with someone when you are addressing them 'one to one' privately.

It is all very well for Jock to name me in connection with his alleged 'fear' of posting, but he is one person who has steadfastly refused to discuss anything by private email, and the resulting public thrash-out has blighted the Board. Mark's posting is the evidence of that.
