I think Prue is on to something here. In addition to anger/disenchantment with his own father, another good explanation for the lack of a present father is asking what would have happened if he’d been around. Suddenly, an otherwise interesting adventure becomes just another family vacation.

If we accept the prevalent theory that Cap't Flint is based on AR, it becomes clear that AR didn’t see himself as having a stifling influence - just the opposite, once he’s been cured of his nativeness. That’s only natural - who among us considers him/herself a native?

So, perhaps, Prue, AR substituted himself - and why not. After all, he's writing these things!
