This one is for older readers, who got their copies of PM soon after publication. In checking the Proceedings of last year's TARS Literary Weekend, I found several different versions of spelling The Dogs' Home.
So I went back to my own copy, and found:
- Where Nancy and the others mention it, they refer to it as The Dogs' Home.
- So does the heading to Chapter IV, and the reference to it in the Contents.
- But the running headers at the top of the page for the chapter say The Dog's Home.
- And when Nancy and the Ds reach it, there is a notice painted on the door : THE DOG'S HOME.
I had never noticed that, in over 60 years. I now learn that in more recent editions, the anomalies have been tidied up, and all references are to The Dogs' Home.
And all because one of the speakers typed The Dogs Home. That was always wrong.
