The Best of Childhood (again) reckons that AR may have turned his attention to 'The Death and Glories' some time in May 1943, i.e. a few weeks before PM was published on June 28th. A fragment of planning notes survives. He abandoned the project in October.
The first letter from Myles North suggesting the GN plot is not till June 1944.
