The film of the Ridddle of the Sands (Stars - Michael York, Jennifer Agutter and Robert McCorcindale (sp)) is now available on DVD and is well worth acquiring.

As to the point of AR metioning the book in WH, I think that, bearing in mind that Riddle was quite a famous book in its own right, AR mentioned it to give the reader (especially an adult who is reading thebook alod to a child) and impression of the mentality of the owner of the houseboat (ie CF).

This is especially the case when you bear in mind that the person looking at the books is Dot - she and Dick were the only members of the NPE who did not know Captain Flint. But reading taste is a way to get to know people that you haven't met (which is why we all get on so well on Tarboard), but Dot missed out on that because she didn't read Riddle. Of course it makes the "Dutchman" mistake even funnier.
