I first met The Riddle when I was at school - but older than Dorothea. The BBC did a superb radio serial of it which held several of us enthralled for weeks.
Not long afterwards, Penguin published it, and I rushed to buy a copy. I was very surprised to find it was in a green cover ('Crime and Mystery') rather than the usual orange for fiction.
