Dave, that is so DEPRESSING. I would like to disagree a little bit. One can find affordable secondhand hardbacks about the place - charity shops and secondhand bookshops, carboots etc. This summer in Falmouth I found The Big Six and one other lurking quietly on a shelf screened by a picture book propped up in front. Around six pounds each, I think. The hunt is certainly part of the fun. And after all if we look at the editions and editions and editions that all the books went through, a huge number must still be out there somewhere.
