Hannah, as a former ESL teacher I also used Swallows & Amazons (made up my own unit) but to be honest, for some reason the kids preferred John Marsden's 'Tomorrow When The War Began'. I think it was more 'on the edge' for them and being kiwi kids temporarily, they liked that it was just across the ditch! They wanted stuff written in NZ but nothing here compared to Marsden's work.
