this sets out to say that Childers was "an Englishman" rather than "an Irishman"

The Wikipedia article is better.

The Vikipedia article starts, "Childers was born in London to a Protestant family of Glendalough, Ireland. His father was English and his mother Irish, but he was orphaned as a child and raised by an uncle in County Wicklow." I guess this makes him Anglo-Irish or Irish-English. Truly The Mastadon's Dilemma.
