It is a while since I saw the CC/BS films but I recall that they really did use Horning - so yes, the village is the real thing.
And yes they do race on those rivers — I have seen them!
If you are interested, I have hunted out the Broads part of the online diary we created for friends and family back home when we were in the UK in 2001 and put it up on my website for a week or two. The BS photos link doesn't work because I can't find the folder I put them in. Will let you know when (if) I find them and put them up.
If you look closely at the public staithe we moored at in Stalham by the Museum of the Broads you may recognise it as 'Great Yarmouth' in the CC film.
I think they used the Hunter Yard and boats often in the films but I don't have photos sorry.
