Dear Prospective TAG Activist,
It's great that the membership drive has got off to such a brisk start. Everyone is welcome. Do please join up. The only membership requirement is that you contribute at least one long essay or piece of photo journalism or video which we can upload and link up from Tarboard. We are particularly interested in articles on subjects like Beckfoot plumbing, building pram dinghies, British boarding schools, steam trains, democracy, imperialism, AR's politics, AR's views on women, capsizing sailing dinghies and generally having fun. In fact any subject which has ever received a yellow card on Tarboard will be deemed very acceptable. And anybody who has ever had their post moderated is immediately eligible to join the committee.
Pru and Peter R have already authored interesting texts. Discussions regarding digital distribution of their works are pending.
Now the name of the group will be crucial for the success of my (oops, I mean our) plans. Previous attempts on Tarboard to launch the George Owdon Appreciation Society hit a rock. My recent attempt to launch the Tarboard Blog was stranded on a mudbank. I'm sure that was because insufficient attention was paid to the brand.
You will remember that AR was brilliant at marketing. Ruth and Margaret became Nancy and Peggy, Taqui became John. Crossley became the early Captain Flint. Truly a master of brand management!
A suggestion has been made that TAG restyles itself AGH or "Action Group Hullaballo". The long form would be used for obtaining grants from the EU. What do you prospective members think. When I say the word "Hullabaloo" I usually get the reply, "It's just round the back of the bar, mate." "Hullabaloo" is also a rather nice beer from the Loddon Brewery, so I think we'll stay "TAG" for a little longer than a jiffy or two.
