I have four copies of the Cape hardback editions of SA, the printing years being 1947, 1964, 1997 and 2003. The printing histories of the last three of these are consistent, with the 1964 copy having the one-impression-per-line format and the last two in summary form. However, the printing history in the 1947 copy is almost, but not quite, completely different. To take one specific example, the 1964 copy says the 16th impression was in June 1941, but the later copies are silent about any impression in that year. Is there a simple explanation? And who drew the plainer-style maps in the 1997 edition?
