Sorry that there has been no help on this topic, but I have had few replies on changes in cover design etc. I seems that Tarboarders are more interested (quite rightly?)in the content of the books than a history of their production.
Possibly the only place which might have an answer is the TARS Stall offering :-
Arthur Ransome: A Bibliography, Wayne G. Hammond, hardbound, £33.00 + p&p. £3.80 (U.K.), £7.90 (Air U.S./Canada). The long-awaited authoritative bibliography, offered at 2/3 of list to members only. Obligatory for all serious Ransome students.
I have not read it so cannot confirm whether it would help.
