Thank you for this Peter. I had appreciated the difference between TARS and Tarboarders but probably differentiate between the two types badly in my postings on Tarboard.
As I have not attended any live TARS gatherings I have probably missed meeting the people to whom you allude.
You are correct about trying to get threads back on to course, but it is fun to see where these diversions lead.
It is somewhat like the apocryphal army story of the message being passed by mouth, along the trenches in WW1, from one soldier to another, which started as
"Send reinforcements - we are going to advance"
and ended as
"Send three and fourpence - we are going to a dance"
(Note for those unused to old British Currency, three and fourpence meant 3 shillings and 4 pence - about 17 pence in modern British Currency)
However I do wish sometimes that when a thread moves in a new direction that the subject matter follows suit.
