It's not likely that Cape got extra paper allocations for the US trade; The series was published in the US at that time by Lippincott (S&A, SD, PD(?)) and MacMillan (later volumes). I have a first US edition of Secret Water, published contemporaneously with the Cape edition. Whether Canadian sales might have warranted augmented paper supplies, I couldn't say.
