Jon: Making the outer wheels spoked reduces the burden they put on the centre wheel, and the greater mass of the centre wheel also adds to its inertia

OR: I seem to remember that boxpoc wheels were designed to reduce rim deflection.

Boxpoc wheels reduce rim reflection and are lighter! So less inertia. Less track damage as well.

Couldn't find a link to Boxpoc wheels, but the Scullin Wheel is designed on similar principles.
