Perhaps because in the Streatfield books most of the children are training for careers in the arts, the children are usually in an adult world- they have teachers, parents, nannies, all interacting with them constantly. In Ballet Shoes, there is an interlude where the children are sent to the country, (recovering from whooping cough, I think) but it's unimportant to the main plotline.
