I read the de Selincourt series at an early age (surreptitiously swiped from my oldest brother's library, like his AR books). I hadn't come across them again for decades until I managed to pick up a couple when in the UK recently. There are many parallels between the two series, and it would be interesting to find out which came first, and if either author was familiar with the other (surely they were). I don't have the books with me here, but key points I remember of the "Family Afloat" series is that visiting children start sailing (in Essex) and meet local children who are better at it. The locals have an older, single male relative (the Bosun) who facilitates many things and participates in others. They're good fun, but somehow do not grip or linger in the memory like the AR stories. I know nothing of the other series.
