I think you may need to re-read Swallowdale Iain. I must admit from my reading of the Lakes books that I had no idea that the Amazons could ride. But it is not unreasonable that they could.
In SA trekking with hill ponies is mentioned as a possible future holiday, possibly this implies that some or all of the S&A could ride. The Swallows did not seem to make a good job of it in the mythic ML.
They may be some references that my everfailing memory has missed.
