Iain put forward the theory (this was when Tarboard was young) that there was an ulterior reason why the original Amazons were so well hidden. A cover-up of some kind? Or an agreement with the girls father? (Voluntary or obtained under duress?) So, if AR learned that Huyton Hill was to be be used for filming, this may have been a little too close to the truth for comfort.

Another way of looking at this was that AR tried to hide both the original Swallows and Amazons. The Swallows 'escaped' because their family were such an important part of AR's own life. We just don't know what role, if any, the Amazons' family played in AR's life. But, whatever it was, virtually no clues remain from the thorough weeding that Evgenia gave the Ransome papers.

Or at least nothing that is known to remain. I put it this way because Iain also reported on Tarboard that he had been informed by the Kendal Museum of Lakeland Life and History that some Ransome papers had been retained by AR's literary executors.
