In a similar vein, my parents used to speak of 'five-and-twenty' instead of twentyfive, and I recall my Lancastrian uncle who used 'nobbut' regularly. I suspect that these older forms are still alive and well in the rural parts of Britain, especially among the older folk. For us in Australia, whose history is so short, Britain is the World's Largest Museum. Only the British think that it is normal. My rellies were amazed that I would want to see neolithic stone circles and ancient celtic carvings.
